‘School of Uke’, a group of young ukulele players and singers from Aghada made it to Ireland’s Got Talent live auditions this year, where they received four yes votes from judges Louis Walsh, Jason Byrne, Michelle Visage and Denise Van Outen.

The girls performed their version of ‘Riptide’ complete with beautiful harmonies, and received fantastic feedback from judges and the show’s host Lucy Kennedy. “We had a fantastic day”, explains Aoibhinn Schweppe, who is School of Uke’s youngest member. “We sent in a clip of us singing and playing last year, then we were invited to perform in Cork for producers, and finally we were asked to the Helix in Dublin where we got to do our act for the judges” “It was the most exciting thing we have done so far”, says band member Bonnie O’Keefe. “Even though we got four yes votes from the judges, we then got knocked out in the following round. We were only one step away from the semi finals, but we didn’t mind, it felt like we had won the lotto just to get that far in the competition.”
