Christmas has come early to Carewswood Garden Centre & Café. Proprietor Daniel Leahy is stood outside Carewswood’s new, purpose-built, 200 square metre, inside emporia, watching as a delivery of hand-selected specimen trees arrive, writes Becky Grice.
Thankfully, we’re not here to help him unload them. Instead, the Midleton & District News is on hand to congratulate Daniel and his wife Juulika on six years of success at Carewswood.
But, before we can get to that, Daniel leads us over to what – to us – looks like a big tree. We’re right, but it’s a bit more than that, as Daniel explains. ‘This is a 100 year old olive tree that was specially imported from Italy.’ We look a bit more impressed. ‘And this’ – he points – ‘is a Japanese Maple.’
We’ve come a long way since the hydrangea was the height of sophistication.
