Cllr Mary Linehan-Foley is the new chairwoman of the East Cork Municipal District Authority. The Independent councillor was elected to the position at Junes AGM, which was held in the district offices in Midleton, writes Christy Parker.
Cllr Linehan-Foley was nominated by Cllr Michael Hegarty (FG) and seconded by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr James O’Connor. There were no other nominations.
It is the poll-topping councillor’s second time filling the post since the 2014 local government reforms. In her 21st year a councillor (Fianna Fáil for fifteen of them), she also served as mayor three times in the Youghal Town Council days.
Outgoing Independent Cllr Noel Collins dropped down a notch, being returned unopposed as deputy chair. The veteran representative was nominated by Cllr Hegarty and seconded by Cllr Susan McCarthy (FG).
