Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley’s ‘urgent call’ for dedicated respite house in East Cork

At the meeting of the Regional Health Forum on March 28th, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley called on the HIQA and HSE to consider using empty houses and associated units at St. Raphael’s Centre, Youghal for urgent respite care and ancillary services in East Cork.

She states, ‘With the successful implementation of the rehoming of the residents of St. Raphael’s, there are now a number of buildings on the campus vacant. Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, in association with the HSE’s Estates Department has commenced a review process on the future use of the St. Raphael’s Campus.

‘I think we are all aware of the need to further develop respite services for both children and adults with disabilities, and I would consider the St. Raphael’s Campus an ideal location to provide these essential services for the people of East Cork.’
