Accolade was the word of the evening chosen by the Grammarian Pat Fitzgerald at our recent Toastmasters meeting. It is a noun signifying “an award or privilege granted as a special honour or as an acknowledgement of merit”. The word was first used in 1611 and came from the French. It was an especially apt word as the President Denis McDonald conferred accolades a plenty on Margaret O’Flynn following her success in becoming the Division A Evaluation Champion for 2019. Margaret goes forward to the District 71 final in Norwich, being held on the weekend of the 10th to the 12th May 2019, with best wishes for further accolades from the club members.
