Skechers Cup U16 Final Midleton vs. Salthill Devon: Sunday, May 12th in Turners Cross at 4.00pm

Midleton F.C. will journey to Turners Cross next Sunday, May 12th in search of the “Skechers Cup” U16 All Ireland, when they face Galway side, Salthill/Devon in the final. Midleton have had to survive a tough campaign to reach this stage of the competition and now they will hope to go one step further.

In the semi-final local rivals Douglas Hall took them to extra time and in the end it took a penalty shoot-out to decide the outcome with Midleton winning by 7-6 in the end with keeper Diarmuid Byrne making the vital save. In the last 16 Midleton got the better of another Galway side, Mervue United, 3-1, while in the last 32 round, Midleton had another good 3-1win against Kildare side Leixlip.

In the Cork section, Midleton opened their campaign with a 5-0 triumph against Park United. They followed this up with a 2-0 win against Castleview while in the round to get into the final 32; Midleton had to work hard to get the better of Carrigaline 2-1. In the Regional semi-final, Midleton suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rockmount and that loss kept their feet firmly on the ground as their run to the final continued.

Midleton lost a number of prominent players to Cork City and Cobh Ramblers League of Ireland sides, but their replacements have not let the side down and Midleton are just one win away from being crowned All Ireland Champions. Certainly Barry Lambe and his back-room team have left no stone unturned with the preparation and Midleton will go into this final confident that they can get the better of their Galway rivals.
