A mix of emotions swept over Midleton FC last weekend when only weeks after being selected as a FAI Club of the Year finalist, their clubhouse was subjected to an act of vandalism. Late on Friday night Chairman of Midleton FC Mick Kirby received a phone call from Gardaí to say local residents heard windows breaking at the Knockgriffin premises.
It transpired that a young man who seemed to be under the influence of drink and drugs had broken a large double-glazed glass panel in the new clubhouse that is used by many different organisations within the community. Once inside there was extensive damage done to framed pictures of club team success in years gone by: the kitchen area was ransacked, a roller shutter door was destroyed using a fire extinguisher and the main multimedia area was sprayed with the contents of the extinguisher.
