Daylight robbery was played out on the hallowed turf of Nowlan Park last Wednesday where Midleton CBS literally stole the result from the grasp of a never say die Colaiste Eoin side when tall Jason Hankard got onto a beautifully cut Ryan McCarthy sideline and flicked the ball to the net for the all-important score. The Harty Cup winners were pushed all the way by the Dublin based
Gaelscoil who had their defence tested on numerous occasions. Despite being without the injured Joe Stack, Midleton CBS’s Ryan McCarthy led the Midleton attack and finished the game with ten points to his credit.
Hankard opened the scoring after 30 seconds with a great point and it took another five minutes for Colaiste Eoin to score when Padraig Puirséil raised a white flag. Sam Quirke Midleton CBS and Donal Mac Duinnsléibhe traded points as did Ross O’Regan Midleton CBS and Séamus Ó Fiachna. It was nip and tuck during the middle section of the opening half with both defences under pressure and with very tight marking, scores were going to be scarce. Both sides traded white flags but the score of the half came from McCarthy when he split the Colaiste Eoin’s posts with a beautiful sideline cut, much to the applause from both sets of supporters. That point left the East Cork school two points to the good at the break, 0-8 to 0-6.
