All roads on the East Cork Municipal District Roads Programme for 2018 are practically complete with just one project deferred (Park Street Midleton, due to Irish Water proposing to lay water mains). The only outstanding works to be undertaken are some ongoing road markings and the raising of service covers, which is weather dependent, senior executive engineer for roads Dave Clarke told December’s East Cork Municipal District meeting.
Of the 24 road sections 14 were competed in-house by Cork County Council and the remainder by private contractor. Two of the 14 involved Community Improvement Schemes (CIS). The engineer said the overall expenditure was €3,156,500 on regional and local roads. Of this €2,491,000 was spent on restoration improvement and € 505,000 on restoration maintenance/surface dressing. A sum of €115,000 was spent under the CIS and €43,600 on a Local Improvement Scheme (LIS). The approximate length of road treated across the programme was 47.6 kilometres.
