Not too many people can claim they’ve won 36 gold, 17 silver and five bronze medals in competitions from here at home in Ireland to such far-flung locations as Seoul, New York and Sydney, writes John Walshe.
Such a person is Tom Leahy who lives outside the North Cork village of Ballyhooly. But then sport is just one the many talents that this remarkable 63-year-old has been gifted with. Born with Cerebral Palsy and despite being confined to a wheelchair and only having the use of one hand, Tom amazingly has also been painting and sculpting for most of his life.
As a result of a chance encounter (more of which later), the people of Midleton and the surrounding areas will now have an opportunity of seeing this incredibly talented artist’s’ work first-hand this weekend as he hosts an exhibition at My Place in the town from Friday to Sunday.
