Christy Parker talks IRONMAN update to course director John Innes

With under a month before IRONMAN Cork takes Youghal to where it has never been before, signs of the town’s readiness and anticipation are now highly apparent.

Everywhere the embrace is manifest, from a welcoming street banner on South Main Street to painted premises, dressed up windows, tarmacked roads, restored footpaths and a fair degree of re-alignment on Claycastle beach. Minds focused, Youghal is increasingly united in the face of this intruding celebration set to peak on June 23rd.  

For John Innes, course director and the man whose spontaneous e-mail to IRONMAN management, begat the whole thing, the evidence is gratifying. “There’s a good buzz about the place now”, he says. “The community is really getting into the swing of it. The enthusiasm is spreading and everyone is sprucing properties as it grows. It’s great.”
